Installation - The Astral

The Astral centrepost is a commercial-grade market-style parasol that weighs approximately 50kg. It is recommended that this sizeable SHADEmaker be anchored into a substantial concrete slab, wooden deck or in-ground. Because the Astral is designed to handle greater than normal wind loads, correct installation is essential. A portable base option is available but not recommended for the Astral.

Standard Spigot included
with each Astral
Heavyweight
Base Plate (optional)
In Ground Fitting (optional)

The 2 15/16" diameter mast fits directly onto the Spigot as a sleeve. The Spigot can be bolted directly into a concrete patio or timber deck if the Astral is not to be seasonally stored.

We strongly recommend you purchase a Heavyweight Base Plate for the Astral, which will provide additional strength and stability for this larger shademaker. The round Heavyweight Base Plate is used to attach the Astral to a timber deck or concrete patio. It is galvanized and powder coated steel so it will not rust. The powder coating is charcoal grey to match the Standard Spigot. The diameter of the Heavyweight Base Plate is 400mm (approx. 16") and 1/4" thick. The Heavyweight Base Plate is first bolted to concrete or timber using the special bolts included with your Astral. The Standard Spigot is then screwed into the Heavyweight Base Plate. If you want to remove your Astral for seasonal storage, you simply undo the four screws and remove the Spigot from the Base Plate, leaving an unobtrusive plate in your deck or patio.

If you intend to install your Astral into anything other than a concrete patio or timber deck you may need to purchase an optional Standard In Ground Fitting. Please feel free to contact us to determine the best installation option for your particular situation. Made of galvanized steel, this Standard In Ground Fitting is extremely strong and will not rust. The diameter of the plate is 215mm (approximately 9"). The height is 500m (approximately 19 1/2 "). Installing an In Ground Fitting requires digging a suitable-sized hole, pouring concrete and placing the In Ground Fitting into the concrete. The Spigot is then bolted onto the In Ground Fitting.
